There are few regular irritating sounds like the dogs barking at night or the constant hum of the traffic that may keep you awake at night, but the constant noise of a snoring partner can be beyond description. Only those who have suffered night after night besides a person with snoring disorders can understand the need for an anti snoring remedy.
Snoring is a disorder that cuts through nations, religions and races. According to a recent study, more than 50% of adults snore every night, while men seem to have this syndrome more than women and it does not get better with advancing age. The noise decibels can range from mild snoring to heavy snores which can often lead to sleep apnoea.
It has been noted that an average person spends about 1/3rd of his life sleeping but sometimes, just getting a full night's sleep can be a daunting task if you or your bed partner tends to snore. Routine snoring is a serious sign of health issues and should not be ignored.
Basically there are two types of snoring- the obstructive sleep apnea and the routine primary snoring. The primary snoring is the common type of snoring and is a sign of impending health issues but if your or a loved ones snoring has reached the level of Obstructive sleep apnea levels, there is a need to take immediate help.
People suffering from sleep apnea or even extreme snoring have issues of loss of breath and often gasp for air in between snoring at night. This disease is most often seen in people who are overweight or obese as the muscles at the back of your throat are too relaxed and often the tongue falls back, plugging the air flow. This often leads to oxygen deprivation and if it goes unchecked, it can even prove fatal. You may stop breathing a few times every night to about 40 times a night which often results in inadequate sleep and grogginess the next morning. With time, sleep apnea leads to low concentration, poor focus, irritability and sexual dysfunction also.
If you are suffering from sleep or snoring disorders, it is time to get medical help. If you are still not sure about the level of snoring disorder that you have, your doctor can put you through a battery of tests to ascertain the intensity of snoring and provide adequate treatment. There are many sleep study methods used today to know your sleep patterns and awakenings throughout the night and these help you know the possibilities of health issues that you are facing. It has been seen that snoring is usually accompanied by high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases. In very severe case, surgery is the only solution but mostly, non invasive techniques work best.
If you need to take over the counter medication or clinically proven anti snoring remedies, nasal strips and herbal throat sprays are known to work well. There are other non invasive techniques that also help in limiting snoring to quite an extent.
